Boston Terrier Show Breeders May Join Our Discussion List Here
Hello and welcome to the "Showbostons" list at Yahoogroups.com. This list is limited to show breeders, exhibitors and handlers of Boston Terriers. It is not a list for Boston Terrier pet owners. We want to keep this list to the topics of Boston Terrier SHOW BREEDING (medical, genetics, pedigrees, breeding history, new litters, etc), BOSTON SHOWING (win brags, any other show info/announcemets etc.) and BREEDER NEWS (illness, breeders having difficulties/needing help etc.) The list is especially for people who don't have the time to read general Boston lists which have many posts a day unrelated to breeding and showing Bostons.
Do you show your dogs at dog shows? Are you planning a breeding for one of your show bitches and want to discuss your ideas on pedigrees, etc. with others? Need help with problems a puppy is having in a litter you are raising for show? Have you or any of your dogs ever attended Westminster in New York City? Do you own a champion Boston that you finished yourself? Have you been breeding for over 10 years and have helpful advice for those just starting to breed? Are you a junior handler or someone just starting out in the conformation ring? If you answer yes to any of these questions, then this might be a list that you would enjoy.
List Rules
We want this list to be a valuable source of information for serious Boston breeders/exhibitors, and following the rules is the only way to keep the list unique. The list is moderated by me which means that I read each and every message before it is posted. Messages which do not follow the rules below will not be posted to the list. The rules are:
1. Keep posts related to the topics described above. List members will be removed from the list if they continually post off-topic (please do not post about Boston rescue, 4-H, contests, lost or stolen dogs, pet owner issues etc.) There are other lists which cover these topics (bostonterrier@yahoogroups.com). Also, no argumentative posts over the list. If you have a problem with another person, or if you are upset with a judge and feel like sounding off about him or her over the list, DON'T post these issues here! Please e-mail people directly, do not post negative/personal issues to the list. Also, there is a list especially for the discussion of judging you may join (K9judge_mental@yahoogroups.com) No mentions of individual dogs or breeders in connection with genetic defects of related lines is allowed unless you have the permission of the breeders involved. No flaming/judge bashing or you will be removed! Choose your words carefully if you have strong opinions, and think twice about posting something you think could be too controversial. If unsure, sleep on it and see if it still sounds ok the next day. We want the list to be a friendly and sharing/caring atmosphere, not a battleground for power or negativity. Please give a warm welcome to all new members. Also, we ask that each member contribute to the group a minimum of once every 3-4 weeks, hopefully more often. While it is possible to lurk, we discourage this as the objective of the list is for sharing ideas and experiences which can benefit everyone. We don't want a list full of experienced people who never speak up.
2. As of 11/24/2002, we polled all of the current showbostons list members on whether or not we should have congratulatory messages following people's show brags posted to the list. Many people were finding it hard to read all of the congrats messages, and in the end, the majority voted to allow brag postings any time of the day of week, but to move the congrats to private e-mail instead of posting these on the list. Same is true for new litter brags - brags are ok, congrats go to the litter owner. No congrats will be posted to the list after 11/24/2002. Exceptions: For UNUSUAL and SPECIAL wins such as all-breed Best In Shows, BOB/BOS/WD/WB at the National Specialty and any wins at Westminster, we DO allow congratulations to be sent over the list. New champion brags - we DO allow congratulations for this.
3. So that everyone can feel safe in posting their experiences, feelings and thoughts, we do not allow messages posted within this list to be forwarded to other people or lists, or read by or to other people without the permission of the Moderator. Anyone who breaches this rule of confidentiality will be removed from the group. AGAIN, DO NOT SEND MESSAGES POSTED IN THIS GROUP TO ANY OUTSIDE INDIVIDUAL OR LIST.
4. Conversely, DO NOT FORWARD any e-mail messages you receive from outside the list to this list. That means, if you get a message you think would be of interest to the list, DO NOT hit forward and send it to the list. The list members here do not want to read any urban legends or warnings from other people, dog breeders or otherwise. If you get an e-mail message saying "10 dogs died this weekend from tainted Purina dog food, please be careful if you feed Purina", DO NOT post this/forward this to the list unless you can accurately back up the statement with proof such as a press release from a trusted mainstream news source or a page on the company's site where it discusses the issue. 99.9% of messages like this are hoaxes, and many people seem to be easily taken in by this, since the news seems real. That is exactly WHAT an urban legend is. Something that seems perfectly logical, started by someone who gets their kicks from creating these false "worries" accross the internet. ONLY post messages you think up (that originate with you) yourself.
5. No cross-posting among other lists. Do not post to this group and include other group addresses in your TO, BCC or CC fields. Conversely, do not post to other groups and include this group address in your post. Here's the deal with cross-posting and why we have this rule on showbostons@yahoogroups.com:
There is no problem with a showbostons@yahoogroups.com list person sending the same message to different lists PROVIDED that they are done in individual (separate) e-mails. If you type more than one address into the Send To, Copy To, BCC etc. area of your mail program what happens is that list members receive one message with all of the different group e-mail addresses in it. Then, since people DO forget the rules over time, they very often will reply to ALL OF THE LISTS which show up in the TO area in the original e-mail (which is what you have to copy if you want to send your message back to the list as opposed to the individual who sent it), thus creating a chain letter type of affair which cannot be stopped because of the number of people involved (not knowing there are rules for different lists). Then you very quickly get the bostonterrier@yahoogroups.com list people (who may have originally subbed to lurk which we allow) cc'ing their posts to the showbostons list which may not follow the topics we are trying to keep the list to.
BOTTOM LINE: When you send a message, address it ONLY to the showbostons list and no other lists or individuals.6. The list allows you to attach pictures to your posts. However, you can only receive pictures if you get individual posts sent to you and you can only send pictures to the list if your post originates with an e-mail - not a post you write from the web-based version of yahoo. If you would like to share more pictures and have no web space, you may upload them into the web-based version of showbostons on yahoogroups in the "Photos" section. Other group members can see them then. The address is: http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/showbostons/lst and you must have your user name and password ready to sign in here.
Thank you for agreeing to follow our rules! We keep it a happy place and a good source of information by following these guidelines. If you decide to join our list, I'd like to be the first person to welcome you!
